Meditations on Riches

12th December 2005

“Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.”
Proverbs 8:10-11
Wisdom is more important then riches. Wisdom without riches leads to peace and contentment and a host of other desirable stuff. Riches without wisdom leads to no peace, discontentment, trouble in life, and sometimes, often times to real poverty—no wisdom or riches, not a good place to be. Maybe my conception of riches is wrong…Wisdom brings treasure, riches, etc.—so maybe the earthly idea of riches—monetary wealth—is all wrong. It’s a chicken/egg thing, and I think the Wisdom-riches were first. The world’s idea of riches is a perversion of God’s original idea; rather than the materialistic terms being borrowed to express spiritual/biblical concepts.
