Boundless has an article reflecting on the documentary “Into Great Silence.”
This award-winning, critically-acclaimed and audience-loved film tells the story of the Carthusian order—a “community of hermits” that focus heavily on praying for the church and for the world.
The author emphasizes how these monks have realized the importance of silence.
“[God] will not (and should not) turn the volume up to compete with the noise generated by a world turning out of control.”
I was convicted while reading this article. It seems that I, and my generation, have a fear of silence—always playing our iPods, turning on the stereo, filling every second of our day with an inpenetrable wall of sound. And we wonder why we can’t hear God’s voice.
I’m going to challenge you: Try turning off the noise, getting to a silent place, and silently “waiting on the Lord” for 5 minutes. Then journal it.
