Serenity.

I took this picture one early morning in late fall 2008. Found it today while rummaging through my archives. Reminded me of good times.

I am finding it difficult to keep shooting without actual projects. 2008 was a strong year for me with over 20,000 images kept. 2009 has less than 5,000. to date. Without real, client-driven projects, I find it difficult/impossible to keep shooting. When it was my job, I also did a lot of personal work, and my skills kept improving. Now, I do little client work or personal work, and my skills have/are/will atrophy. … It might be easier to get back into the groove if I could find my battery charger.

Photo Of The Day: Reflections

29th January 2008

Reflections.

Today’s photo came as I was walking to the office after lunch. The wind was blowing, the sun was shining, and I looked at my Bodum french press and realized what a great photo was sitting here, in my hand. I set it on the sidewalk, and began experimenting with composition.

The second, third and fourth time you photograph something will produce more refined composition than the first time. These may or may not be better photographs. You will never know, however, unless you make the second, third and fourth photographs.” (LensWork Issue #50, anonymous.)

Lately I’ve been trying to really work my photographs—and I’m loving the results. This photo is a classic example (as is yesterday’s) of this strategy. It took three decent photographs before I finally arrived at this pick.

Nikon D200, 50mm lens. 1/125sec at f/8.0, ISO 100.
